I was in Germany last week being interviewed and had a couple of very young journalists who were obsessed with America's Next Top Model. by 16-year-old girls who want to meet Tyra. I did it for about three years and I still get attacked in New York and L.A. But it's a great program, innit? Clever old Tyra she developed that show and it's sold to 180 countries. We must be doing something right.Įxactly how many Next Top Models does America actually need? He's a writer and actor, so he's very artistic. I was sensible! (Laughs) I've been married for 23 years to the most gorgeous man. If you were a supermodel, why didn't you marry a rock star? I'd quite like to do something like that, but just on a smallish scale.
But I think if I did a show, it would be a one-woman show where I use things from my past and tell stories and sing some songs and maybe show some video. I've had people approach me about putting a show together. I did it because I love to sing.Įveryone keeps asking. Not everything I've done has a been a huge success. I've done things because I love the project or the people. You can't not do something because you're nervous what people are going to think. But I think the link between them all is that they've got gorgeous lyrics and they're all really melodic.Īre you nervous at all about returning to music after so many years, or is it just a joyful experience? But when I was making my list, I started thinking about some slightly more modern songs, although they're still 30 and 40 years old, Neil Young is one of the greatest songwriters ever. So I wanted to do an album of all those period songs. It's been a huge part of my performing life from Day 1 - in 1970 I did (the film) The Boy Friend, which was a pastiche of the 1920s. I'm very influenced by the great American songs of the '20s and '30s. I tend to sing lyrical, very melodic songs because I love them and that's the way I sing. What qualities did all these songs share that made you choose them? There are plenty of love songs out there. Fittingly, the disc finds her gently crooning orchestrated love songs, from American Songbook standards to pop classics like Neil Young's Only Love Can Break Your Heart and Bryan Adams' Heaven (the pop-rocker, who has also photographed Twiggy, plays guitar on the cut).ĭespite a packed schedule that includes Marks & Spencer shoots, multiple Home Shopping Channel appearances and the launch of her own new fashion line, Twiggy found some time to discuss her music, being David Bowie's Pin Ups girl and the Twiggy board game.
